Mobile Concentration System
Small MSC System
The MCS unit is mounted to a standard 9 axle truck and trailer combination (9 axle truck and trailer is the standard combination for milk collection in New Zealand
• MCS collects and concentrates milk on route to the next pick up location
• Volume concentration factor (VCF) typically low >1.7:
− VCF of 2, means that the volume is halved, half of the water has been removed from the milk stream. From 1000 Litres of milk, to 500 Litres of concentrated milk. With 500 Litres of water removed.
• Concentrate is stored in source tank / trailer
• Excess water is discharged at the next farm pick up location
• RO typically operates in ‘batch’ style operation
• MCS delivers its own concentrate to the factory
• Capacity is matched to collection rate (low)
• Milk collection management systems operation unchanged, just truck capacity increased
This small MCS system is the low capex version, PPNZ are seeking to build. To prove the technology, and undergo acceptance testing, while providing data collection in the field.
Large MSC System
The MCS unit is mounted to a standard 9 axle truck and trailer combination (9 axle truck and trailer is the standard combination for milk collection in New Zealand.
• MCS collects and concentrates milk
• Fully concentrated ‘retentate’ stored in MCS trailer
• Plant is multistage & operates typically in ‘single pass’ configuration:
− Single pass, provides a series of membrane elements to successively concentrate the milk stream. It does not circulate ‘round and round” like in a batch type process.
• Shuttle tankers meet at designated farms for concentrate transfer
• Concentrate is transferred to shuttle tankers
• MCS continues collection round
• MCS can stay out for 20hrs +. This is the best use of capital, and creates the largest cost saving.
• MCS driver shifts change as required (via shuttle tankers)
• Capacity matched to or exceeding the required collection rate
